Atlanta Braves: Lucas Sims’ Debut All To Familiar
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves debuted two of their top prospects on Tuesday night with most of the focus being centered on starting pitcher Lucas Sims. The Braves young prospect pitched well but took his first loss of the season.
Debuting for the Atlanta Braves Lucas Sims looked good against the best team in the National League the rookie allowed three earned runs though you could argue two of those runs could have been avoided with solid defense. Sims looked to be as good as expected in six solid innings he struck out three batters and didn’t give out any free passes.
The problem for Sims was the fact that the Braves still seem to be stuck in a rut offensively unable to score many runs. Scoring runs wasn’t a problem for the Braves earlier in the season it was the pitching that the Braves were unable to find. Now that the Braves have found more consistent pitching their offense seems to be stuck.
The good news for Braves fans is the fact that they will have Sean Newcomb, Lucas Sims, and Ozzie Albies who made his Major League debut as well. The biggest take away from Sims’ start should be the fact that he matched up well against one of the best lineups in baseball.
He looked unafraid to attack hitters but was not over confident attempting to strike every other hitter out. His pitching ability looks to be at the Major League level though one start is a small sample size.

The only knock on Sims would be the fact that he went into a lot of deep counts and could have lasted longer in the game if not for a bigger pitch count early in the game. If Sims can continue to pitch as well as he did Tuesday night he will soon make himself a part of the Braves young core as they transition toward contention in 2018.
