The Atlanta Hawks are in full rebuild mode around their point-guard. ESPN recently projected the Hawks’ starless roster for the least wins in the coming season. The Hawks have continued to get marginally better though signing affordable veterans.

The Atlanta Hawks added Luke Babbitt on a one-year deal that will bring the veteran to Atlanta. Luke Babbitt has bounced around the League the last few seasons with his latest stop coming with the Heat.

Babbitt has made himself known as a three-point specialist shooting forty-percent or better over each of his last few seasons. The problem is that once he is past the arc his skills erode considerably both as a shooter and a defender.

He is still a very good bench player however, and a solid add to a Hawks team that is in need of a lot of talent. The Hawks are doing the correct thing in a League that is ruled by Lebron James and the super teams built to beat him. Rebuilding and taking a shot at the top of next season’s draft class and top free-agents is a smart move that the Hawks are putting themselves in position to make.

Adding Babbitt makes the Hawks a bit more watchable and will give them more quality minutes from a bench that lacks much proven NBA talent. Babbitt is still only twenty-eight years old and capable of improvement as well.

Though there is little chance of him becoming a starter the Hawks will give Babbitt plenty of minutes to attempt to build his value. Babbitt will likely be competing for minutes with John Collins and veteran Ersan Ilyasova both who will have plenty of chances this year as well.
