The Georgia Bulldogs were ranked 15th in the coaches poll a solid ranking considering their lack of success last season. Is the poll correct in making the Bulldogs a top twenty team of 2017?

Before answering if the Georgia Bulldogs are a top twenty team there are two things that need to be looked at if you know the talent that is returning this seasons for the Dawgs. The first if the recruiting class brought in improvements, and how big of an impact that they will have?

While the impact part is impossible to answer if you follow college recruiting whatsoever you know that Georgia had their best recruiting class in years. They added top talent on both sides of the ball that will make them a lot better this season even without taking into account a healthy Nick Chubb or a more mature Jacob Eason.

The second part is the schedule and that is where the Bulldogs have hit the lottery. The Bulldogs opponents will go as follows: Appalachian State, Notre Dame, Samford, Miss. State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Florida, South Carolina, Auburn, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech.

That is by far the easiest SEC schedule that the Bulldogs will see Florida is the only team that the Bulldogs will face that has the potential to be a top twenty team. When Georgia plays Florida the winner will likely be the team headed to the SEC championship.

While it may be a jump ahead to be talking about an SEC championship game before the first snap it is reasonable considering the talent that the Bulldogs will have to work with and the ease of their schedule.

They will play six teams out of their twelve games that they could very easily be putting their backups in by the second half that should tell you the chance that the Bulldogs are going to have to take their SEC division this year.

The 15th place ranking is a good one and well deserved that gives consideration to how good the Bulldogs could be while remembering the team’s struggles last season. It is time to see what Kirby Smart can do and if he is really going to be the coach for the long-term future.
