Atlanta Braves: Five Moves to Make Before Next Season
By Kit Anderson
- Add a quality starter regardless of control
For a team that needs pitching as badly as the Braves have in recent months they have remained very picky as to who they will target or add to their rotation. After missing out on the Sonny Gray and Chris Sale sweepstakes in the last few months it is time for the Braves to lower their expectations and focus on adding upgrades to their rotation and not the BAND-AIDs they continue to throw at it.
Julio Teheran and Mike Foltynewicz are viewed as long-term starters for the Braves and will be in the rotation this season that we know. Beyond that it is hard to speculate who the Braves will have that they can rely on. That is where the Braves have thrown cheap(or overpaid) veteran starters to their rotation who they later either cut or trade.
The most recent example of this would be Bartolo Colon and Jaime Garcia who are both wearing other uniforms now. The Braves need to lower their standards of a quality starter and add the best option on the market and stop holding out for a Sonny Gray or Chris Sale to fall in their laps. It will not happen and the Braves are going to have to realize that and invest in trades or the free-agent market in adding reliable starters.
