Atlanta Falcons: Shouldn’t Cut Jalen Collins
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons’ have had their corner-back Jalen Collins for the first ten games of the season for violating the League’s substance abuse policy. It is the second offense for Collins.
After the Atlanta Falcons released the news that Jalen Collins has again been suspended for breaking the League’s policy many fans are wanting Collins to be released. It is the second time that Collins has been caught and Coach Dan Quinn would not commit to giving Collins a roster spot.
Cutting Jalen Collins may be the most tempting option but it is not the right move to make for the team. Collin’s talent level and potential as a corner is high enough that the Falcons should give Collins at least one more chance to prove himself.

If he were caught again he would be suspended for two years by the League and his career would be all but over. The Falcons now will likely be able to keep Collins a bit longer for cheaper if his production can match the level it was at last season.
It wasn’t long ago that he was a starting corner in the Super Bowl giving him a second opportunity based on his talent may not seem fair but it is the right move to make. Like it or not talent and potential influences how a team punished an athlete and considering it is a business that is the way that it should work.
The one mark against Collins would be that his issued apology afterwards seemed half-baked and didn’t seem to resonate. Collins declined to offer whether he got caught for the same PED offense he was suspended for last year or not.

Jalen Collins is a talent player that would be a starting corner on many NFL teams the Falcons need to remain patient with him and give Collins another opportunity to play a part in the defense in the seasons to come.
