Atlanta United FC Loses to D.C. United for 3rd Time This Season
By W. M. Lawson
Atlanta United FC traveled to our nation’s capital tonight to try and reverse a weird recent trend. It didn’t work out so well.
They say that it is “really hard” to beat a team for the third time. They apparently aren’t familiar with the Atlanta United FC and their attempts to beat lowly D.C. United. Those two teams faced off again tonight, and it didn’t go well for the good guys.
In a game where the only goal scored was an own goal, and where it seemed like everyone in white (that would be ATL UTD) was running in wet red clay, Atlanta United FC lost 1-0. Inexplicably.
Look, I’m not going to sugar coat this: DC is not a good team. They lose to just about everyone else in MLS. In fact, this is the first time since April DC United has won back to back games. They just can’t lose to Atlanta. Inexplicably.

I say inexplicably because, although this writer is very aware of a given team having another team’s “number”, and that being a very real thing, this writer has never seen a terrible team beat a very good team three times in a season. It’s just unheard of. But here we are.
A win tonight would’ve have done more than just reverse this perverse curse, it would’ve sent ATL UTD back into playoff position. But with no points earned, The 5 Stripes currently sit on the outside looking in.
Next our beloved United head to Philly. Another of these games where they play a team below them in the standings and it offers a decent chance at one of those enigmatic and elusive road wins.

That match takes on an even more importance after tonight.
