Atlanta Braves: Freddie Freeman Still Not Healthy
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves star first baseman has returned from his broken wrist but has struggled to match the power numbers he put up earlier in the season. Freeman will finish out the season but won’t be fully healthy until he has an off-season to heal.
The Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman rushed back before his wrist was fully healed to play for a team that was at the time in wildcard contention. Since then the Braves have completely fallen out of contention and despite his great production Freeman’s power numbers haven’t been the same.
Reportedly Freeman will not be fully healed until he stops playing and gives the injury time to heal. The wrist has cost Freeman some production despite the fact that Freeman has hit .320 since his return from the disabled list.
While it is not hurting his production enough to cause concern the fact that he is still not completely healthy and your franchise player sitting Freeman should become a consideration. While Freeman would not be a fan of the move it wouldn’t be a bad one.
Keeping Freeman out of games for a while and allowing him to fully heal should be something that the Braves consider. Freeman is the Braves franchise player and if he can stay healthy for a full year has a chance to produce at an MVP level.
Resting Freeman and allowing him to heal fully for next season should be considered as well based on the current standings and the Braves’ goal to begin to contend for postseason next season.

If the Braves are going to take that next step they are going to have to ensure that Freeman is healthy. While it is impossible to guarantee that putting Freeman on the disabled list and allowing him to start the next season healthy shouldn’t be out of the question.
