Is Matt Ryan Elite? Nobody In Atlanta Is Asking That Question
By W. M. Lawson
The talking season for the NFL is in full force, and the usual questions are being asked. Whether Matt Ryan is “Elite” is not one of them in the City of Atlanta.
Absolutely impossible to watch a national media NFL show in August without the ubiquitous questions. The evergreen questions. The same questions every year. One of them these last few years has been: “Is Matt Ryan elite?”. Not one person in Atlanta is asking that question.
Think about that disconnect. Yes, they have to list. It’s talking season. But, why is it that? Why is it the same questions? Every year? Because there is nothing else to talk about?
Actually, the national media could focus on what Matt Ryan has meant to this team. They could focus on how, from the moment he stepped a foot at Flowery Branch, dude has solidified a team and franchise. Folks could yammer about how he has marshaled a team through massive coaching changes. Lots of gob-smacking could go on about how he has been a beacon and an anchor for an historically forgotten franchise. Not perfect and shiny, but steady and strong.

But, lists get eyes, and readers, and listeners. So, they do it. But, Atlanta Falcons fans don’t care about lists. Or “Elitism”. We want to win. And we can win this year. That’s the story.
Last year ended roughly, but this year seems promising. Have you noticed how dangerous that offense is when they are out there, so far? Even with Sarkisian calling plays, they seem dialed in and in symphony.
The national media can click teeth all they want about who is “elite” and who “isn’t”. It doesn’t matter. What matters is team and city pride.

Matt Ryan gave us that last year. If he does it again this year, it won’t matter what the national media says in 2018.
