Atlanta Falcons: Devonta Freeman Cleared From Concussion Protocol
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons got good news this week that their star running back has been cleared as healthy and will be returning to practice. Though he is unlikely to play the final week of the pre-season it is great news for the Falcons.
The Atlanta Falcons have cleared their star running back to return to practice and game action though it is doubtful that he will play in the final pre-season game. Devonta Freeman being cleared is a big sigh of relief for the Falcons and their fans.
While the offense may be potent without Freeman it certainly is less complete both in the passing and rushing attack. Freeman’s ability to split out from the backfield and run routes and catch the ball effectively are part of what demanded his new deal this off-season making him the highest paid back in the league.
He has a unique ability as well to adapt his running style to run through would be tacklers or outrun the field. While having Freeman week one will be a big boost the Falcons will not be facing the toughest of teams as they open the season against the Chicago Bears.
The Bears have little to no defensive talent and offensively will struggle to protect their quarterback whoever that may be. Having Freeman will likely give the Falcons the ability to chew clock and run the ball more consistently late in the game.
