Georgia Tech Football: Can They Wind It Up Again In Six Days?
By W. M. Lawson
After a double overtime loss on Monday, Georgia Tech Football has to kick off again at 12:30 on Saturday. Can they get ready to attack? Will they have enough in the tank?
Pulse-pounding. Gut-wrenching. Heart-breaking. Those are words that come close to what the loss on Monday night to the Tennessee Volunteers felt like. It doesn’t quite do it justice, though. In a game utterly dominated by the Georgia Tech Football team, a loss still seems incomprehensible. But the season has just begun. Week Two is upon us.
Yeah, there is no sugar-coating it. Monday night was tough for Tech. But the season’s goals are still there. And the tune up for coming conference play starts Saturday.
Jacksonville State (1-0) comes to Bobby-Dodd this week, and is doing so after a pretty impressive performance beating Chattanooga. The Defense returns 8 starters from 2016, and held the Mocs to 76 yards rushing. In addition, former Auburn RB Roc Thomas had 190 all-purpose yards in the win. Yes, JSU is an FCS school, but they are no joke.

But Georgia Tech is a demonstrably better team on paper. The question then becomes: “Do they have enough in the tank to compete early on Saturday? Can they get back up after a six-day heartbreak?”
My guess is yes, but it won’t be easy. Normally, this situation goes one of two ways: The favored team coming off a loss takes the loss out on the next team or they come out soft and lackadaisical.
Look for the Yellow Jackets to slow things down a bit on Offense and move to more of a power game. QB TaQuon Marshall ran the ball 44 times on Monday. That won’t happen again. And it doesn’t need to. The Defense will also do their thing in the 2nd half and open the game up.
It won’t be pretty early, but the Ramblin’ Wreck gets the first “W” of 2017.
