Georgia Bulldogs: Report Card on Jake Fromm
By Kit Anderson
The Georgia Bulldogs won a tough and sloppy game in Notre Dame on Saturday night and no player was more focused on than Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm. Here are our takeaways from Fromm’s first start.
The Georgia Bulldogs escaped Notre Dame with a nail biting win against the Irish. The win was true freshman quarterback Jake Fromm’s first start of the season. With Jacob Eason working his way back Fromm will have a lot of attention focused on his performance.
In his first true test on the road Fromm looked unafraid and at times that was unhealthy for Fromm and the team. While confidence to an almost obnoxious level is needed to be able to play quarterback at a high level a healthy amount of fear of the defense is needed as well.
Fromm forced multiple balls that should not have been thrown on Saturday night. But as the game went on Fromm learned from his mistakes and later in the game threw balls away and took sacks and stopped forcing throws that could be turnovers.
That is all the Georgia defense needed from Fromm as they shut down the Notre Dame offensive attack and ultimately won the game for Georgia.
Fromm showed two things on Saturday night that fans should pay special attention to. The first is the fact that he is willing to adjust his game and listen to a coaching staff that undoubtedly told him to stop forcing throws.
The second is the fact that he is still very obviously a young quarterback who against a young defense does not have the rifle and quick scoring ability that Jacob Eason flashed last season against two different SEC opponents.

In fairness to Fromm 16-29 for 141 yards and a score in the Georgia run heavy offense isn’t bad production. The problem is if Fromm can limit turnovers and learn not to force balls. Week three shouldn’t be much of a test against a soft team that Brice Ramsey could pick apart.
