Atlanta Braves: Time to Trade Matt Kemp
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves have a young outfielder who will be pushing to make the starting roster next season. With the youth movement and his large salary it is time to move on from Matt Kemp.
The Atlanta Braves have a young prospect in Ronald Acuna who didn’t look just ready for Major League baseball this season in the minors but looks ready to be one of the best young players in the League. With three starting outfielders already locked up the Braves will have to make a trade to move Acuna in the starting lineup.
Trading Matt Kemp would free up a lot of salary room as well if the Braves are able to move even part of Kemp’s big contract. While Kemp did bring a much needed power hitter to protect Freeman his value versus his cost is outweighed along with the fact that the lineup is much better now.
Matt Kemp was only taken on by the Braves to try and forget about the failed deal that brought a certain Cuban prospect to Atlanta and sent Alex Wood to the Dodgers. While the new regime has been trade savvy for the most part that one trade is the exception.
The Braves are going to have a hard time finding a trade partner to take on Kemp’s contract but considering his upped production it is likely that they will be able to move at least part of his contract.
It is time for the Braves to continue to move forward and move on from Matt Kemp.
