Atlanta United FC: The 5 Stripes Continue Domination At “The Benz”
By W. M. Lawson
Atlanta United FC (13-7-8) took the L.A. Galaxy to the wood shed Wednesday night at “The Benz”. The (4-0) victory was Atlanta’s 3rd in the new palace.
Before the match really even settled in Atlanta United FC was up (2-0). It was that kind of night. Were it not for the two yellow cards and one red card, it was a perfect night. In their 3rd win in 4 games in the new stadium, ATL UTD look dominant at home.
L.A. isn’t that great of a team. They currently sit next to last in the Western Conference standings. But this was 1 of 6 consecutive home games in the new stadium. It wasn’t a given that they’d take to it, if you will. In addition, The 5 Stripes were at a point in the season where they really, really needed to pile up points at home. They are doing it, and that is a big deal for playoff hopes and standings,

To illustrate just how dominant Atlanta United FC has been at Mercedes-Benz, they have out scored their opponents 17-3. To say that they have enjoyed playing there is to be understated. In fact, one gets the sense that, on the incredibly fast and slick turf field, Atlanta has an extra half step. A fast team just got faster.
I could go into the numbers of this game, but why? It was (4-0). As you might imagine ATL UTD controlled Time of Possession (64.3%-35.7%). The final score, and the five cards handed out, were the other real numbers to remember.
United hosts Montreal on Sunday. They currently sit one spot out of playoff contention and would love to steal a point, or three, on the road. ATL UTD sits in a weak 4th place in the Eastern Conference, and could use 3 points to solidify that spot.
