Atlanta Hawks: All Eyes Are On Dennis Schroder
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Hawks season is underway and all eyes are looking to Dennis Schroder to lead the Hawks. The young point guard has shown great development and now will be asked to lead and carry the Hawks this season.
The Atlanta Hawks season got off to a great start with a win against the Mavericks and Dennis Schroder was the clear leader on the floor for the Hawks. He put up 28 points leading the team in both points scored and rebounds.
Dennis is going to have to mature quickly this season to set the example for teammates both on and off the floor. After getting into some trouble this pre-season a suspension or fine may be coming from the team beyond that Schroder has to avoid putting himself in anymore bad situations and become a leader of this young Hawk’s unit.
All eyes are going to be focused on Schroder as he will be expected to lead the team offensively with forces like Paul Millsap and Dwight Howard gone to other teams. He is going to have to grow up quickly as the Hawks decide if he is their point guard of the future.
The one area of Schroder’s game that may need to improve is his ability to shoot the three, his ability to slash and get to the free throw line are as good as almost any point guard in the NBA. His speed and ball handling have improved drastically and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him as one of the scoring leaders in the NBA this season.
Schroder’s ability to score alone will not carry the team however, his ability to distribute the ball is going to have to take a step forward this season. Assists to casual NBA fans may not seem as impressive as the points that Schroder could put up but his ability to distribute may be the single biggest factor in deciding how this season goes for both him and the Hawks.
No question, this team will look to Dennis Schroder to lead them on and off the court along with the veterans that the Hawks brought in. The question is not if Dennis is talented enough to put it all together rather, can Dennis mature and be the leader that the Hawks need as they continue to rebuild this season.
