Atlanta Braves: Top Five Players of the 2017 Season
By Kit Anderson
- Freddie Freeman
Considering how long Freeman was hurt in 2017 and the next players value Freeman falls to number two on this list. Freeman is the unquestioned face of the Braves franchise and has been for quite some time.
He earned that title this season when he was healthy playing through injury and wrist pain to help his team. Hitting 28 long balls in only 117 games this past season. His .307 average was especially impressive when you consider that he played the last half of the year not fully healthy.
A fully healthy Freeman would have been on pace to take part in the MVP race and had an unfortunate pitch not have hit his wrist it would not have been at all surprising to see Freeman win the MVP.
Freeman provides the Braves a player that fans have been able to enjoy watching in the middle of an ugly rebuild. The problem for the Braves is that they seem to be wasting Freeman’s prime seasons on a rebuild.
With the front office now changing directions they will need to finish building around Freddie Freeman and give one of the best offensive players a chance to compete again in the NL East.
