Atlanta Braves: Free Agents the Braves Should Target
By Kit Anderson
1. Jake Arrieta
Jake Arrieta might be the least likely signing on this list due to the Braves history of not spending on the top names in free agency. Arrieta certainly qualifies as such as one of the top two pitchers on the market along with Yu Darvish.
Arrieta would provide the Braves with a clear top of the rotation arm that the Braves have been looking for. Arrieta will likely be looking to receive a deal similar to the one that his former team gave to Jon Lester.
Arrieta would be well worth any such deal at thirty-one he likely has three to four more years of solid production ahead of him. Not only that but he has shown a great ability to win games winning 54 games over the last three seasons with the Cubs.
The Atlanta Braves have a very clear need for a top of the rotation arm and should add that arm through free agency and not the trade market. Adding Arrieta would give the Braves exactly what their rotation is in need of and this move alone would push them to wildcard contention.
Barring a change in strategy it is hard to see this move happening as much as it makes sense. The Braves should at least give Arrieta an offer and attempt to solidify a struggling rotation.
