Atlanta Falcons Should Target Jimmy Graham
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons season is over and their focus is shifted to the draft and new contracts for current players and possible free agents. One perfect free agent pick would be tight-end Jimmy Graham.
The Atlanta Falcons adding Jimmy Graham to an already loaded offense would help open up what ailed them this past season adding a red zone weapon. Graham is a vertical and red-zone threat two problems that the offense struggled with in 2017.
Aside from finding the cap space Graham is a perfect addition to the Falcon offense. He has spent his last few seasons with the Seahawks after spending the first years of his career in New Orleans. Making many Falcon’s fans very familiar with what he can bring to an offense.
Graham’s production in all has declined over the last few years leaving his price somewhat discounted compared to the first time that he was on the market. Signing Graham however, will not be cheap and the Falcons would almost certainly have to free some cap space.
Austin Hooper has been the Falcon’s primary tight-end over the last two seasons but Graham would be a huge upgrade and take pressure off of Hooper and allow the young tight-end to progress a bit more.
Much of how much the Falcons will have to spend in multi-year deals will depend on if they opt to attempt and lock up Tevin Coleman after already locking up Devonta Freeman as well as how much Matt Ryan’s new deal will cost the team.
Signing Jimmy Graham might be a long shot but it is a risk worth taking if the Falcons can find anyway to free the cap space to sign the game changing tight-end.
