Atlanta Braves Five Trades They Should Make Before Spring Training
By Kit Anderson
- Best defensive outfield in the League with Brett Phillips?
The Brewers have been the most splashy with their moves this off-season adding two star outfielders including Christian Yelich. Though the Braves may have missed out on Yelich they may have another possible trade partner in the Brewers.
With Yelich now in the fold the Brewers have a surplus of outfielders and will be looking to deal. Brett Phillips has a cannon of an arm and hit .270+ in limited Major League exposure last season. He would continue the theme of improving the Braves defense and bring in another fresh youthful perspective.
Watching the tape there are some reasons for concern about Phillips’ strikeout tendencies at the plate but factoring in his outstanding defense and an increasing ability to adjust the Braves should attempt to add Phillips to their roster.
Starting or platooning Phillips with Lane Adams or P.J. Tucker would be an option at least until Ronald Acuna arrives.
Possible Returns: How highly the Brewers value Phillips is unknown at this point with no credible trade information leaking as of yet. What is known is that Phillips is a former top prospect with a big arm and will cost the Braves at least one prospect. A price that would prove to be worth it if the Braves opted to add Phillips.
