Atlanta Falcons Matt Bryant Wants to Finish Career in Atlanta
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons have a big decision to make on their free agent kicker Matt Bryant. Bryant recently made it known he hopes to finish out his career in Atlanta and has no thoughts of retiring anytime soon.
Matt Bryant is likely set to be a free agent after spending the last few seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. Bryant recently made it known that even though he is 42 (soon to be 43) Bryant plans to play another two or three seasons and hopes they are all in Atlanta.
This is great news for the Falcons and their fans. Bryant is one of the most clutch kickers in the NFL and the only part of the Atlanta offense that was consistent in 2017.
Resigning Bryant has to be a big priority for the Falcons this off-season. After Matt Ryan’s contract situation is addressed Matt Bryant should be at the top of their list.
Though Ryan may have earned the name “Matty Ice” I am not so sure that there isn’t another Matt that is more deserving of that title.
Matt Bryant may be an aging kicker but he seems to only be getting better with age. A top contract for a kicker is in order and the Falcons should be ready to use some of their cap space for that purpose.
Letting key free agents like Dontari Poe go in favor of keeping Matt Bryant would be the right decision. For an Atlanta team with a lot of questions on offense in 2018 the last problem they need are issues at kicker that plague much the rest of the NFL.
Two or three more seasons of Matt Bryant sounds perfect for the Falcons who should do all they can to ensure Bryant does indeed finish his career with the Atlanta Falcons.
