The University of Georgia Lady Bulldogs (21-3) have quietly built a season to remember. A national ranking and recent hot streak point to post-season fortune.

There is always a competition in the modern media to “suck up the oxygen”. It’s not different in college athletics. Part of building a brand, and a name, that can’t be used to recruit and make money for the school is one of the primary goals of an Athletic Department. While the Georgia Football team dominated headlines, and UGA Men’s Basketball fill articles with question and consternation about their implosion this year, The Georgia Lady Bulldogs have been stellar.

Ranked 18th nationally, and currently 2nd in the SEC, the Lady Dawgs haven’t garnered the attention that other UGA teams have, but they should moving forward. They’re that good.

And, frankly, it’s a little surprising. Andy Landers, former Head Coach for 36 years, is a hard act to follow. Actually, he is the only act to follow. He’s the only coach in Georgia Lady Dawg history. It’s hard enough to follow at 36 year legend who had SEC and NCAA Tournament success, but the only coach in program history?

Enter current Head Coach Joni Taylor in 2015, and so far, so good. I don’t think there was much expectation for the program when Coach Landers left. History shows that the “person after THE person” almost always fails.

Coach Taylor hasn’t. The Lady Dawgs have won 10 in a row, and haven’t lost since going down to then #2 ranked Miss St. back on New Year’s Eve. Yes, the Lady Dawgs are undefeated in 2018. How many of you can say the same thing?

They have a tough test on Sunday, 02/11/2018 as they travel to Knoxville to take on the Lady Vols. Tennessee is a good team in it’s own right, with a coach following their own legend, the late Pat Summitt.

If you haven’t seen them play this season, there are worse things you can do. The Georgia Lady Dawgs are athletic and play with fierce effort. It’s quality play.

There might be other things taking up the oxygen right now in the headlines, but come March, it could be the Lady Dawgs soaking up all of the attention in Athens.
