The Atlanta Braves have announced that Mauricio Cabrera has cleared waivers and been optioned to Triple-A. Keeping the heat throwing reliever was good for the team considering Cabrera could find his composure again.

The Atlanta Braves have successfully passed Mauricio Cabrera thru waivers and he will report to Triple-A. Cabrera is coming off of a horrible season a year after impressing with his 100+ mile per hour fastball and pitching well with the Braves.

Cabrera seemingly lost all of his already, limited control last season. His ERA sky rocketed and his ability to use his velocity to fool hitters evaporated.

Cabrera staying with the Braves despite his struggles is good for the team. There is at least a small chance that he will again find the control that he had in 2016.

If he were able to do so it is hard not to see him being slotted in the late innings. In the current makeup of the Braves bullpen slotting him in the 8th inning if he were to find his control would be good for Cabrera and the Braves.

For that to happen he must again find his control and more movement from his fastball. Regardless, of how fast you can throw a flat fastball can be hit by the worst of Major League hitters.

If he can regain confidence and control of his pitches Cabrera could quickly factor into the Braves’ bullpen.
