Atlanta Braves And New York Yankees Tangle On Television
By W. M. Lawson
The Atlanta Braves are coming off of a spilt-squad game on Thursday. Friday gives us the first TV look of our beloved Braves.
Can I just say? The fact that we can’t watch the Atlanta Braves on TV during Spring Training is a disgusting realization. One that didn’t occur to this dolt until last week. It’s a missed opportunity for the league trying to grow an ever-so-slightly decreasing audience. Thanks, MLB channel. But tomorrow the clouds part and the sun will shine. And as it does our Braves will play the hated New York Yankees at 1:05 EDT. On television.
It is true that this game doesn’t count. But it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t matter. Practice always matters. Practice against live throwing definitely matters.

That’s one of the things that makes Major League Baseball Spring Training special. They play the games. NFL does that, too, but only for four weeks, and it’s not really all effort all the time. Yes, the players give effort because they are trying to make the team and feed their families. But a football game feels different when dudes are only out there for evaluation.
MLB is different because, if you make enough plays, unless you are a golden baby rookie who has contract and eligibility years to consider, you make the club, and probably start.
Which gets us to Friday. Is Swanson hitting? Are Acuna and Albies already as good as advertised? Which Pitcher, if any, will show some nasty?
Those are all questions we get to see answered tomorrow.
This writer thinks the league has made a mistake by not televising more of Spring Training. That can wait for another day, though.

Friday is the Atlanta Braves day. And, as Sloff Dizzle would say, “we get to put our eyes on it.”
