The Atlanta Falcons are making cuts early on this off-season to free cap space and sending a message to the roster that everyone must do their job. Two cuts have been made so far and are likely not the last players to leave the Falcon’s roster.

Derrick Shelby was part of the Atlanta Falcons defensive line until he was cut earlier this week. Cutting Shelby will free up $4.5 Million dollars in cap space while also effectively sending a message to the rest of the roster.

Shelby was thought to be a role player in the Falcon’s defense for future seasons. He had shown flashes of explosiveness off of the line but was horribly inconsistent. Cutting Shelby sends the message that no matter what your role is do your job, or the Falcons will move on.

The Falcons are gearing up their roster for a run at an elusive Super Bowl. Unlike the Braves or Hawks the Falcons are built to win now and will be going all in this off-season to make a run at the ever elusive football championship for Atlanta.

Levine Toilolo was the next player to be cut with the Falcons cutting ties with their former tight-end. Toilolo was as close to a bust providing just a bit of value with his blocking skills and ability to get open due to his inability to catch the football.

Cutting Toilolo isn’t surprising and points to the Falcons looking to upgrade at that position thru the draft or free agency.
