A Big Year For Our Atlanta Braves And Our Mike Foltynewicz
By W. M. Lawson
The Atlanta Braves are (4-6) in Spring Training. There have been a few good signs, thus far. Mike Foltynewicz has been one of them.
Have you noticed that our Atlanta Braves are looking a little better? Spring Training is just that. It’s training and evaluating personnel in the Spring. But when trends begin, whether good or bad, you take notice. One of the trends has been the quality outings for Mike Foltynewicz. This is going to be a big year for the Braves and for Folty.
When Folty showed up, there was great hope. One of the reasons for that is that he came over in the trade for Gattis. It one of those trades where we lost someone we loved in the present, and was given the promise of the future. So, we bit the bit, and looked forward.

Mike Foltynewicz has been good. At times. In fact, dude has been lights out for periods. The kind of stuff when you look at your Brother, and the look is all that’s needed. He could be a 1.
But he’s also been atrocious, at times. I’m not going into the numbers, because, frankly, this isn’t about digging him out. But, he has, and there is no shading it.
Everyone has known going into this season that, for the Atlanta Braves to be successful, Folty has to “come into his own”. The point of this is that, if he does, it makes it very interesting for the Club.
Think about it. If Folty kills it all year, the Braves’ Front Office will have to decide to move him or keep him. But it depends on how good he is. Too good? You can’t get rid of a young Pitcher who is good in the locker room. Good enough to move and get other pieces? Maybe.
Dude has gone 5 Innings with 1 H, 1 SO, 2 BB, 0.00 ERA. Those are Spring Training numbers. But those are good Spring Training numbers.
If Mike Foltynewicz balls out this year, the Braves will be that much better. If he balls out, he may not be an Atlanta Brave for the entire year. It is a weird nexus.

Either way, both parties need him to be at his best. It’s just Spring Training, but, so far, so good.
