Atlanta Falcons Resign up Kicker Matt Bryant to Long Deal
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons have resigned longtime kicker Matt Bryant to a three year deal that will likely keep Bryant in Atlanta likely for the rest of his career. The move is a great one that will take away the problem of an uncertain kicking game.
Matt Bryant has made many a clutch kick for the Atlanta Falcons who will not allow Bryant leave Atlanta. Bryant is 42 but is showing no signs of aging and was the most consistent part of the offense in 2017.
Bryant’s contract is worth $10.5 million with incentives that could add $2 million dollars to the total. That is an average contract for a quality kicker and well worth the cap space.
As to how much longer Bryant plans to play the kicker recently made it known he felt he had more than one good year left in him.
While Matt Ryan may go by the nickname “Matty Ice” that may be more appropriate for Matt Bryant who always seems to hit the game winning kick when given the chance.
Matt Bryant may simply be the first long term deal that the Falcons work out this off-season with Matt Ryan and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett both looking to be given long term deals.
Matt Bryant hit 34 of his 39 attempts last season and will look to continue and bring consistency to the team as they gear up to attempt a Super Bowl run.
The Falcons made a smart decision but there will always be the concern that Bryant stops cheating time and begins to show his age. That concern however, is minimum considering how differently players seem to be aging in the League compared to years past.

It would be surprising to see Bryant play all three years of the contract it is more likely that is finishes his career before the deal expires. Regardless, good move for the Falcons as the off-season truly starts to get underway.
