Atlanta Braves Dustin Peterson Making a Case for Roster Spot
By Kit Anderson
Atlanta Braves young power hitter Dustin Peterson is making a strong case for a roster spot early in Spring Training. Flashing impressive power that is making everyone take notice and consider the idea Peterson begins the year as a starter.
Dustin Peterson starting the year in the Atlanta Braves opening day lineup seemed like a long shot headed into the spring but with Lane Adam’s struggles the door has been left open. Peterson has hit two particularly impressive towering homerun shots this spring.
If Lane Adams were to continue to struggle Peterson could start the season in the Braves’ opening day lineup. With Ronald Acuna Jr. opening the year in the minors there will be an open job in left field.
Peterson has the best shot to jump ahead of Lane Adams on the depth chart. He brings power to the lineup something that aside from Freddie Freeman the team is severely lacking.
Peterson is hitting .316 early on while Lane Adams is struggling hitting .167 with 12 K’s. It is still extremely early way to early to call a position race that is just beginning but Peterson is gaining traction and would fill a need for the Braves.
No matter who claims the job at the end of Spring it will be a temporary assignment considering that Ronald Acuna Jr. is on his way and with the flashes he was already shown this season won’t be blocked by anyone on the depth chart.
Rotation battles and battles for bench spots are heating up making Spring Training entertaining for the Braves.
