The Atlanta Falcons are one of two teams that are actively involved with free agent Danny Woodhead. Woodhead would fit in well with a Falcon’s offense that utilizes backs that can catch.

Danny Woodhead would slot in the Atlanta Falcon’s offense as the third running back but would see time if he can remain healthy. That has been the problem of Woodhead’s career he is a valuable role player when he is healthy.

Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman are the clear one and two on the Falcon’s depth chart but considering that the other team competing for Woodhead is the New England Patriots the Falcons could have an edge.

In the Patriot’s system Woodhead could be used every week or once all year. The Falcons would provide a clearer role and likely a chance to play a bigger role in the offense especially if Coleman or Freeman were to struggle.

Coming off of another injury plagued season Woodhead is unlikely to demand a high salary and wouldn’t be a problem for the Falcon’s cap space.

He is best used a motion back who can go out and catch passes or use his quickness to fool tacklers.

Woodhead is great role player but an aging one who is currently 33 and likely is on the tail end of his career.

The Falcons must consider as well that they have limited cap space and if they should spend any on another running back considering that they still need to use to address their defensive line and receiving depth chart.

Adding a tight-end and another quarterback are needs as well that the Falcons will address.  Matt Schaub should be cut considering his cap hit and the fact if forced into action the Falcon’s season would be done.

Danny Woodhead would be another weapon that would make the Falcon’s offense look even more prolific on paper. But as long as the current offensive coordinator remains in Atlanta it isn’t likely to translate to better on field production.
