Atlanta Falcons Staying Quiet in Free Agency Bidding
By Kit Anderson
Free agency blockbuster moves have been the story of the NFL and through it all the Atlanta Falcons have remained quiet and out of the fray. While it may not be fun for Falcon’s fans looking for headlines it is the right approach.
Sitting and waiting is never fun, patience isn’t attractive in an age of instant gratification. For the Atlanta Falcons to have been this quiet in free agency has many fans restless. The lack of a big move has many fans unhappy with the team.
A team that is practicing patience and only willing to make wise decisions. Looking to the draft to fill the majority of their needs and shopping in the free agency bargain bin.
Bargain shopping and focusing on the draft is how the Falcons came to their recent Super Bowl berth and back to NFC relevance. Choosing to wait out the market is the best move they can make in a free agency market that is seeing prices sky rocket.
The Falcons have to consider as well that they have many young players like Grady Jarrett and Tevin Coleman who they could look to spend on as opposed to overspending in free agency.
Matt Ryan is overdue a contract extension as well something that has all other roster moves on hold. With the prices for quarterbacks skyrocketing it will be interesting to see if the Falcons can work out a reasonable deal with Ryan.
If Ryan were to decide to make Atlanta pay up or attempt to move on he has all the leverage. The Falcons haven’t put in place any quarterback that can take over or who has been learning from Ryan.
According to the AJC we could see Ryan extended as soon as next week. If that is the case it could start a domino affect of moves that will help the Falcons make decisions on who to draft. Updates to follow.
