After news of the Atlanta Falcons most recent signing, Logan Paulsen formerly of the San Francisco 49ers, it left few with questions as to why, and who?

Rumors circled at the start of free agency of the team showing interest in Austin Sefarian-Jenkins and Ed Dickson, who are both better receiving options at the position than Paulsen.

However, I believe Paulsen’s presence with the Atlanta Falcons allows the team to continue move forward with Hooper as the clear cut receiving tight end, with hopes he blossoms into a bigger receiving threat.

Players like ASJ and Dickson will likely demand significant snaps, thus taking them from players like Hooper and sophomore Eric Saubert, who the team still seems to be very high on.

Paulsen has mainly been brought in as a blocking specialist that heightens the team’s confidence in Hooper and Saubert as the primary receiving options.

I’d be shocked if the team were to spend a high draft pick on a tight end with this news, and probably peg them to select one anywhere on Day 3 of the draft (Rounds 4-7), where that pick can compete with Saubert.

I ultimately expect Paulsen to make the team solely for his veteran presence and experience within the scheme. Paulsen spent all of 2017 with Kyle Shanahan on the 49ers and played for the Washington Redskins from 2010-2015 when Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator.

We all know that bits and pieces of Shanahan’s scheme still remain, whether Sarkisian runs it effectively or not. You can clearly see the connection that played a role in this transaction. Making this a good move for the Atlanta Falcons
