Atlanta Braves Continue Early Season Tear
By W. M. Lawson
The Atlanta Braves (5-2) journeyed to play in the frozen tundra that is Colorado. But even sub-freezing temperatures could cool their bats.
Ender Inciarte and Ozzie Albies looked like they were headed to compete in the Iditarod. I would’ve, too. It was 27 degrees at first pitch. One could understand if the Atlanta Braves offered a poor performance today in those circumstances. They didn’t. They handled Colorado in an (8-3) drubbing, and continued recent quality play. The way they did it says a lot.
They play defense with max effort, pitch pretty well, and are dialed in at the plate. That pretty much sums it up. The easy nature of today’s win, under less than ideal condition, points to something that folks have been thinking about, or hoping for, since that last “feel good” jaunt against Washington: This doesn’t seem like a fluke. What if this is real?

And by “this” what is meant is the entire lineup contributing at the plate. Not every one has a stellar batting average, but timely hitting is really all you need in most games.
By “this” what is meant is that this team straight up hustles. And they look like they’re having fun doing it. Which, for Braves Country, is not only a joy to see, it is a relief.
Those kinds of things are little indicators of what direction your team and franchise are going in. This team has the look of a team, thus far, of being a team made up of dudes who enjoy the process. The game is the thing.
Is it true that Atlanta has had some luck or good fortune? Sure. Starting Pitchers have doubled in the last two games, while plating runs. That won’t continue, most likely.
But the team, everyone, including the new guys like Tucker, Flaherty, and even Albies to some degree, all give max effort and do it while making it look fun to be an Atlanta Brave again. Oh, and the team has a .298 Batting Average, while scoring 56 runs.

I’ll take that kind of culture all year long.
