Roquan Smith is a Chicago Bear after being drafted 8th overall. Smith is the possibly the best player in the draft and will add to a young up-and-coming Bear’s defense.

Roquan Smith was the heart and soul of a Georgia Bulldog’s team that made it all the way to the National Title game. Smith is lightning quick and hits with power, covering sideline to sideline with relative ease.

Calling Smith the best player in this draft isn’t a stretch, and it was surprising to see him fall to 8th. While quarterbacks may carry more value, teams will regret passing on the best linebacker and best player in the draft.

Watching Smith in college, he was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers. He can drop into coverage very effectively or rush the quarterback. He is at his best when he is stopping the run.

He can cover a lot of distance and plays with a passion and excitement. The Bears will add Smith to a linebacking unit that already has former Georgia Bulldog Leonard Floyd.

Putting Smith in the Bear’s defense could push the Bears into contention considering their defense will be well capable of carrying the team.

For Dawg’s fans, it is exciting to see Smith transition to the NFL, while they are also sad to see him leave. His ability on the field has been well documented. What hasn’t been discussed is the fact he is a great guy off the field and is a leader who will help boost any defense.

Roquan Smith is only the first of a number of Dawg’s players expected to be drafted. Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, and Isaiah Wynn are all expected to be taken within the first two rounds of the draft.
