Who are Some Options for the Atlanta Falcons in Round 2?
As the Falcons get ready for day two of the draft, who are some potential targets for them?
After selecting wide receiver Calvin Ridley in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, there are still needs for the Falcons to address in round two.
The team has another late pick in the 2nd round, coming in at 58th overall.
One option for the team might be offensive guard Braden Smith out of Auburn.
Guard is still a need for the Falcons, and Smith would likely slide into a starting spot by the start of the regular season.
Although this might not be the sexiest pick in the world, Smith would be a great addition to the Falcons’ line.
Should the Falcons worry about offense or focus on improving their young defense?
Another option for the team could be Maurice Hurst, who is a defensive tackle out of Michigan.
Hurst’s name hit the headlines during the combine because of a reported heart issue during his medical tests.
He was later cleared to participate in Michigan’s pro day, so it seems the concerns were an anomaly.
If the Falcons are able to snag him in round two, he would likely provide an instant impact on the defensive line.
The team struggled with their run defense last year, and Hurst could provide a big body up front.
Jessie Bates III is the last option we’ll discuss, and he was an absolute stud at Wake Forest.
Although he only started for two years, he was a great piece of the Demon Deacons’ secondary.
The Falcons have had pretty good players in their defensive backfield, but whenever you can add a playmaker, you should always take that opportunity.
Bates might not start every game this season, but he would be a solid player when needed.
The Falcons could utilize him a variety of ways and know that they can trust him to make a play.
It will be interesting to see what direction the team goes, and also to see who’s available for their pick.
If any of these three guys do end up being available, I feel they’d all be great additions to the team. Be sure and leave a comment and let us know who you think the Falcons should draft tonight in round two.
