The Falcons had the last pick of the third round. Did they make a smart choice?
The pick: Mike Johnson, Guard, 98th overall
Their impact: Johnson appeared in 18 games and only made one start. He was essentially a warm body to help provide insurance against injury along the offensive line. One could argue his worth wasn’t completely measured in his playing time but that would be a reach.
Bottom line, this was a wasted pick for the Falcons. Another wasted pick, setting a theme for an underachieving draft class.
Who else was available that round?: Unfortunately, no one jumps out as worth taking in this round. It was a poor drafting year looking back. One the Falcons drafted very poorily in overall.
Would they switch the pick?: They don’t have a choice in this exercise, but they would every single time.
