The Atlanta Braves have the best record in the National League. Their great start can be attributed to their road record.  With a 17-8 road record, the Braves are proving themselves to be road warriors.

Coming into the season few people thought the Atlanta Braves would take a big step forward this season.  Halfway through May and the Braves are not only taking a huge step forward but have the best record in the National League.

Their record is due to the aforementioned road success. Only the Boston Red Sox have as many wins on the road as Atlanta. No team in the National League is even close to the Braves’ road record.

The Braves are relying on their exciting lineup. Perhaps leading off the inning is beneficial to the way this team is built.

Their lineup leads the National League in hits.  Scoring hasn’t been a problem for a lineup headed up by young second baseman Ozzie Albies. The team is the third best scoring team in baseball and best in the National League.

Looking at the teams the Braves have faced on the road their success isn’t a fluke. Taking on division rivals and top contenders like the Chicago Cubs the Braves are beating good teams.

Proving themselves to be great on the road and showing they are true contenders and not simply a blip on the proverbial radar.

Doubles is yet another stat the Atlanta Braves rank first in the National League. The team is hitting for power with Nick Markakis (7) and Ozzie Albies (13) leading the way early in the year.

Freddie Freeman has contributed as well though he is yet to go on a power tear he usually displays at some point during the season. Freeman has been a consistent presence but hasn’t had to carry the offense as he did in seasons past.

The Braves will be at home for the next three games taking on the Chicago Cubs.  For the Braves they may want to pretend it is another road game. A road game they are likely to win as this team continues to prove they are legitimate contenders in 2018.
