1. The Braves Make the Mistake in 2011 of Signing Dan Uggla
Signing Dan Uggla was one of the flashier moves the Braves have made in the last decade. Signing the star 2nd baseman for.. (brace yourself) five years and $62-million dollars. The deal was one of the most regrettable in Braves’ history.
That is saying a lot considering the Braves less than stellar recent past with free agents. Uggla was never good for the Braves. Okay, maybe that isn’t completely fair Uggla did have a 33-game-hit-streak as a member of the Braves.
An impressive run and his only highlight as a Brave. Aside from that, it was misery, poor defense, and strikeouts. In the end, the Braves ended up paying Uggla while he played for another team. The ultimate indication of how little value he had.
His best season with the Braves he hit .233 and the rest of his time in Atlanta was much worse than that. Dan Uggla the perfect example of how a bad contract can go horribly wrong.
