2. The Braves Trade Talent for Hector Olivera

When the Braves where in the middle of their rebuild I was a fan of almost every move they made with two very large exceptions. The first is the move to acquire Hector Olivera the second will be covered a bit later.

The L.A. Dodgers fleeced the Atlanta Braves dealing aging Cuban prospect Hector Olivera in exchange for Alex Wood, Luis Avilan, and Jose Peraza. Braves fans will remember how Hector Olivera’s time with Atlanta went.

Avilan and Wood have been very big pieces for the Dodgers. Imagine having Alex Wood in the Braves current rotation without giving up any prospects. The Braves had that chance and blew it in a move that may go down as one of the worst trades in Braves’ history.

Luis Avilan has had an up-and-down career but would be a very useful piece in the Braves pen. Olivera was later traded in a salary dump for outfielder Matt Kemp.

Kemp was then dumped for Brandon McCarthy and Charlie Culberson. Other players were involved but have all since been cut by the Braves. So, in essence, the Braves traded Alex Wood and Luis Avilan for Charlie Culberson and Brandon McCarthy…  I will let you draw your own conclusions there.
