Georgia Bulldogs Set for Big Step Back During the 2018 Season
By Kit Anderson
The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off of their best season in recent memory. The Dawgs appeared in the National Championship and came oh so close to bringing it home to Athens.
Despite the Georgia Bulldogs great 2017 season it is fair to expect the team to take a big step back in 2017. Coming off of a National Championship appearance there is nowhere to go but down for the team.
Coach Kirby Smart has done an amazing recruiting job bringing an embarrassing amount of talent to Athens. Still, the team lost their leaders and their biggest offensive threats.
Nick Chubb and Sony Michel are the biggest reasons the Dawgs were able to make it through the College Football Playoffs. Paired with poised freshman quarterback Jake Fromm the duo controlled the clock and punished opposing defenses.
Both players are now in the NFL and the Bulldogs will struggle to replace their productions. Losing their defensive leader as well leaves the Dawgs in a position to take a big step back in the 2018 season.
Their current recruiting class will offset the losses a bit but not enough. The team will struggle to adjust early this season and will have the growing pains expected after losing so many key players.
Jake Fromm will have the pressure focused on him to make plays and be consistent. With a playmaking quarterback waiting behind him he has very little room for error.
The Georgia Bulldogs are set to be in contention in the SEC but will not be in this year’s National Championship.
The Bulldogs have the ability to return to the big game soon, just not a year after losing their heartbeat. Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, and Roquan Smith were the biggest contributors and now they will be playing every Sunday.
Coach Kirby Smart has his work cut out for him this season. A season the Dawgs will take a step back from their run through the playoffs.
