With the Atlanta Falcons draft well behind them, all the focused has been on Calvin Ridley. While Ridley is the biggest addition there is another small addition to the offense who could have a big impact.

Ito Smith was an underrated addition to the Atlanta Falcons. Watching tape on Ito, two things become quickly apparent, the first is that he is quick with plenty of moves to compliment his speed.

The second thing is he isn’t going to run through many players. While he isn’t afraid of contact his size is more aptly used in open space and on the edge. The Falcons will give Smith plenty of chances to earn a role in the offensive attack.

Smith went to school at Southern Miss and was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

If Ito Smith can impress in camp and pre-season it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see the Falcons utilize his speed. A speedy team has been an emphasis for Coach Dan Quinn in his time in Atlanta. Smith’s game fits perfectly with that.

Add in the fact Tevin Coleman is likely spending his last season with the team and Smith will earn a look.

Devonta Freeman will remain the starter and carry the bulk of the load but look for the Falcons to utilize some two-back sets.

Ito isn’t a great blocker but he is a homerun hitter. He can explode through the hole leaving the defense chasing a ghost. If the Falcons can find a way to properly use his speed, his impact could be huge.

He will have the best chance to replace Coleman as well. Considering he will be asked to take over for Coleman if he proves himself, he will earn plenty of chances this season.

Calvin Ridley may be the more attractive weapon the Falcons added but don’t overlook Smith. He is an explosion waiting to happen.
