Former Atlanta Hawks Coach Mike Budenholzer Taking Over Buck’s Vacancy
By Kit Anderson
Former Atlanta Hawk’s Head Coach Mike Budenholzer has found another gig in the NBA. He will be taking over as Buck’s Head Coach. The Bucks will be a slight upgrade for Coach Bud.
In his time with the Atlanta Hawks, many fans and players grew a healthy respect for their former coach. Budenholzer employed a great system in Atlanta focusing on a team approach and playing defense.
Putting the team first and playing defense are two lacking qualities in most of today’s NBA action. His time in Atlanta was productive, or as productive as any coach could have been going against Lebron James and the rest of the Eastern Conference.
For the Hawks and Coach Budenholzer, it was time for a change of scenery. Both have different win expectations and both had grown ready to make a change.
For Atlanta, they have already hired Lloyd Pierce. Pierce is a good change of pace and will bring a new outlook and youthful energy.
Budenholzer will have a slightly better chance to win with the Bucks. He isn’t a huge coaching upgrade for the team but will make them marginally better.
The biggest question for the team is if they can compete in a crowded Eastern conference? Looking up at the Celtics and 76er’s and wherever Lebron lands the Bucks have to get better fast.
Playing defense at a higher level is something Coach Bud can help the team with as well as passing the ball more efficiently.
While he will be missed in Atlanta it was time for a change. A culture reset for both sides in this equation.
Atlanta will shift their focus to continuing last year’s rebuild and the upcoming draft. Meanwhile, Coach Bud will be trying to guide his team on an elusive playoff run. Good luck Coach Bud, and welcome to Atlanta Lloyd Pierce!
