The Atlanta Braves started Matt Wisler on Friday night giving Sean Newcomb a well earned extra day off. The young lefty has been dominate and the extra rest will hopefully give him a boost.

Sean Newcomb has been the Atlanta Braves most dominant pitcher so far this season. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last three starts going at least six innings in all three of those starts. Watching Newcomb work there has been an obvious improvement compared to last season.

Newcomb has a 4-1 record with 2.51 ERA. He has struck out 54 hitters and looks to be the ace Braves fans were hoping he would turn into.

Matt Wisler earning a spot start for the team will move up the rotation a day and give all starters a chance to rest.

It is a good move for Brian Snitker and the Braves as they continue to have the best record in the National League East.

Newcomb still has areas of his game he could improve even with his great start. Continuing to work on his control and ability to throw strikes and cut down on walks will be the next step for the lefty.

Watching Sean Newcomb this season he has eased a lot of the concerns he wouldn’t be able to improve his control. His control is much improved but he still has plenty of improvements he could make.

Newcomb has 22 walks so far this season. If he can cut down on walks he will quickly become the Braves ace.

Sean Newcomb will make his next scheduled start against the Miami Marlins one of the teams he shut out in his recent run. The Marlins are a light hitting team that Newcomb could continue his nice streak against.
