Atlanta Braves Top Ten Position Players of the Last Decade
By Kit Anderson
1. The Only Answer for Any Accurate Ranking at Number One is Chipper Jones!
Chipper Jones is a Hall-of-Fame, what more is there to say about the third baseman? His best seasons were the last years the Braves were in contention. It isn’t any coincidence that the last time the Braves were real contenders was when Chipper was standing at third base.
Watching Chipper is one of my favorite memories as a lifelong Atlanta sports fan. Chipper played the game the right way in every fashion. He had a lovable cocky arrogance about him that he backed up with his play on the diamond.
Chipper last played for the Atlanta Braves in 2012. Six years have passed and his impact hasn’t lessened on the franchise.
He finished his career with over 2,000 hits and 400 home runs. Jones has remained a part of the franchise in assistant roles mentoring young players or helping the front office. He will likely remain involved as he should considering his legacy.
Overall the Braves have had a rough ten years with few great position players lining up for them. Times appear to be changing, however, as the Braves look to start a new generation of “Baby Braves” a generation that is carrying their franchise back to relevance.
Be sure and leave a comment and let me know who you believe are the top ten Braves players of the last decade.
