Atlanta Falcons Julio Jones Wants a New Contract
By Kit Anderson
Julio Jones hasn’t taken part in any of the Atlanta Falcon’s voluntary OTA’s. Jones has been in contact with the team and made it clear he would like a pay upgrade. Is Julio out of line?
Julio Jones is the best receiver in football in my opinion. Antonio Brown had the better season last year, but overall Jones is the best receiver in football and will continue to be a monster for the Atlanta Falcons.
This off-season has been the first off-season the Falcons haven’t had smooth sailing with Jones. He had a slight social media incident that set the fan base into a frenzy. Apparently, star athletes cannot delete or edit their profiles without it sending a veiled message.
For Jones, it isn’t the case the receiver is staying with the Falcons. He has been in contact with Coach Dan Quinn and the Falcons.
Jones has made it known he would like to be paid and given a bit more money. It seems to be a fair sentiment after watching his quarterback become the highest paid starter in football.
Jones played a big part in Ryan’s success and Jones asking for a raise is fair. Especially when you consider he isn’t even in the top four highest-paid receivers in the League. Even Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans are earning more than Jones a fact that likely doesn’t sit well with Julio.
Even with this in mind, the team seems happy with Julio and there isn’t any friction at the moment. If contract talks were to develop into friction it could be very problematic for a team focused on brotherhood and sticking together.
Julio Jones has earned his money, both the Falcons and Jones know he is being underpaid. Let’s hope contract talks quickly work themselves out. If not Jones and the Falcons could have a distraction on their hands.
