Who are the Top 5 Quarterbacks of All-Time for the Falcons?
Matty Ice comes in as the best QB of all-time for the Falcons!
What can be said about Matt Ryan that hasn’t already been said? He broke many of Steve Bartowski’s longstanding records, that took him 11 years to gain, in his first 6 years. He won an MVP in 2016, has taken his team to a Super Bowl, an NFC championship and led the franchise to its first-ever consecutive winning seasons.
After Vick was arrested, the Falcons lacked direction and were sitting with Chris Redman at QB before the 2008 draft. Many people wanted the Falcons, with the 3rd pick, to take Glenn Dorsey out of LSU but Thomas Dimitroff had other ideas. My favorite memory of that draft is when Ron Jaworski said that Ryan will have to sit a year behind Redman. Mike Smith didn’t listen to that, started Ryan and the rest is history. On his very first pass, Ryan threw a bullet to Michael Jenkins who scored a 62-yard touchdown.
He went on to lead the Falcons to an 11-5 record and won himself ROY that year. He has consistently gotten hate (mostly Colin Cowherd) as not being an elite quarterback but Ryan has continued to keep his head down and then eventually got rid of the “he can’t win in the playoffs” stigma by leading the Falcons to the Super Bowl in 2016.
Matt Ryan dragged this franchise from a 4-12 team looking back at Vick getting arrested and a city struggling from an economic depression and made the Falcons an annual contender and the Dome/Benz an escape for many Atlanta citizens.
