Atlanta Braves Could Trade For Third Baseman Mike Moustakas
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves are rumored to be looking for a third baseman. Could Mike Moustakas be on his way to Atlanta?
Looking at the Atlanta Braves lineup there is only one obvious hole. Third base production has been inconsistent for the Braves and they could look to improve that weakness near the trading deadline.
While there are many options according to MLB Trade Rumors the Braves are looking at Mike Moustakas.
Mike is having a good year hitting .294 with 10 home runs and good defense at third base. Adding Mike Moustakas to their current lineup would be a huge boost for the Braves. It would make their bench more complete as well.
Moving Johan Camargo into a utility role would be best for him and the team. Moustakas meanwhile, would have a good lineup around him and his production would likely jump.
For the Braves finding a quality third baseman is important before the trade deadline passes. Their lineup is the strength of the team and something they should continue to try and improve.
For Moustakas, he is on the last year of his deal with a team who isn’t in contention. The Royals have been awful so far and will be selling at the break.
The Braves have more than enough to acquire Moustakas, the question is if they want him bad enough? Within reason, the Braves should make a move to bring him to Atlanta. He would take the pressure off prospect Austin Riley and give Riley a full season to develop.
If the Braves choose not to be aggressive on the trade market it wouldn’t be surprising to see them accelerate Riley to the everyday lineup.
Mike Moustakas in the Braves lineup is a great idea. A costly idea the Braves will be exploring as we move closer to the trade deadline in 2018.
