Atlanta Braves Anibal Sanchez Getting Another Chance to Start
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves will give rehabbing starter Anibal Sanchez another chance in their rotation. Sanchez will start one of Monday’s doubleheader games. Sanchez isn’t a good pitcher anymore and unlikely to earn a place in the rotation.
Anibal Sanchez has a misleading 1.29 ERA in two starts for the Atlanta Braves. The Braves gave him another shot in the rotation and it is unlikely to end well for the veteran. Sanchez has been injury prone and when he is healthy not very good.
He had an ERA well over six last year and over five the year before in 2016. The Braves are giving him a shot due to the fact they need fresh arms.
Sanchez will start against the Mets in an important division series. The Braves will be coming off of a very tough series against the Boston Red Sox and need to win this series.
The Mets are hurting right now with injuries and the Braves need to take advantage and win the series.
If the Braves are unable to win back-to-back series the worries about their ability to contend will begin to mount.
The Braves roster is built to contend now but they are a young team who may have some really cold stretches. Young teams are often streaky we are yet to see the Braves struggle.
With a long season to come, there will be struggles and better to put them behind them now rather than later in the season.
Anibal Sanchez starting likely points to the Braves needing to score a lot of runs against the New York Mets. The Braves will need to give the aging pitcher a lot of support and hope he doesn’t earn another turn in the rotation.
If he does it will be bad for the Braves and hurt their ability to win.
