The Atlanta Braves sit atop their division and as we close in on June having established themselves as contenders. With that in mind, MLB Trade Rumors reports the Braves could target Manny Machado.

The Atlanta Braves need a third baseman and there are few better than the Orioles’ Manny Machado.  You can read the MLB Trade Rumors report here.  It seems to be more speculation than actual fact.

The Braves chasing Machado only makes sense if two unlikely things were to happen. The first would be that they don’t believe Austin Riley is ready or they trade him in the deal. The second is they believe they have a shot to sign Manny long-term.

Machado will be one of the most expensive rentals on the trade market and trading for him should only be an option if the Braves believe they have a chance to keep him.

If not, it is hard to see why a trade would be worthwhile. He makes a good Braves lineup better but doesn’t push them to World Series contenders.

It is the Braves pitching that needs the most attention. Machado would help the Braves but the lineup is already their strongest attribute.

Machado is thought to be on the move close to the trade deadline with the Orioles handing him to the highest bidder.

Understandable, for a team who appears to be years away from contention. Machado is a great player who will be looking to join a team who can win now.

The Braves have a big hole at third base and could plug Manny back into his old position. Johan Camargo isn’t proving to be the answer at third base the Braves need.
