Terance Mathis was a return specialist for the New York Jets only getting about 310 yards a year in his 4 seasons there. He signed for Atlanta in 1994, and immediately outperformed expectations. In Mathis’ first year, he caught 111 passes for 1,342 yards and 11 touchdowns. To put that in perspective, in one year with Atlanta, Mathis had already had more receptions, yards, and touchdowns than in his four years with the Jets. In 8 seasons with Atlanta, Mathis had 4 1,000 yard receiving seasons, made the pro bowl, made the franchise’s 1st Super Bowl, and finished 2nd and 3rd in Falcons History in touchdowns and yards respectively.

44. Pick Analysis. WR. 1990-1994, Michigan State. Andre Rison. 3. player. Scouting Report

Rison gave the late 1980s/early 1990s Falcons team a very reliable weapon on the offense. Not only did he finish in the top five of receptions in the NFL his first four years, but his hands were outstanding (he was named the 26th most sure-handed receiver of all-time). Despite only being in Atlanta for five seasons, Rison earned a lot of accolades making First Team All-Pro in 1990 and Second Team All-Pro in 1991, 1992, and 1993. Despite not having more total yards than Mathis, Rison gets the edge because of his Y/G. Rison finished near the top of every receiver category every year for Atlanta and was a force to be reckoned with when paired with Jeff George.
