According to his Twitter, Mychal Kendricks is in Atlanta.

Mychal Kendricks, in a surprising move, was released last week by the Eagles and is currently a free agent. Although his price is a bit steep, Kendricks was set to make about $7 million dollars this year, Kendricks is a quality player who would add some depth to Atlanta’s linebacking core.

Today, Ian Rapoport tweeted that the Browns and Kendricks have reached a 1-year deal to bring him to Cleveland. The news ended any hope of the Falcons having a shot at Kendricks but thankfully Kendricks had something to say about it.

Although it’s important that Kendricks has vehemently denied the reports, the most important thing about this tweet is the location. Kendricks currently is in Atlanta according to the tweet which could mean he is in negotiations with the Falcons. While that is just clutching at straws, Kendricks has said he is in negotiations with multiple teams so it is still possible we see Kendricks in the red and black this fall.

I can see Kendricks coming to Atlanta to be a depth option ahead of Duke Riley. Duke Riley’s 2017 season was obviously a disappointing one as he only had 12 tackles in 12 games and 6 starts. His progression was stifled by an injury but he still didn’t progress as much as Dan Quinn anticipated.

Riley had good plays but most of the time was a liability; He missed eight of 31 tackle attempts which is the worst rate of any NFL linebacker. I don’t think the Falcons will give up on him after only one year but Kendricks could be brought in to add some depth to an already solid linebacker core in Atlanta.
