Atlanta Braves Remain Atop National League All-Star Voting
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves have three hitters topping their positions in today’s All-Star voting update.
Nick Markakis, Freddie Freeman, and Ozzie Albies are the top vote-getters at their positions in today’s ballot update. The three players have earned the recognition they well deserve. Nick Markakis leaped over Bryce Harper to lead the National League in voting.
The fact Markakis has never made an All-Star game is laughable considering the good seasons he has put together. He may not be a flashy player but with over 2,000 career hits and a great .289 career average he is well deserving of an All-Star start.
At this point barring an injury or a huge surge in the ballot, it seems likely Markakis will be one of the starting outfielders for the game. He leads the ballot ahead of Bryce Harper, surprising and speaks to how much baseball is taking notice of this young and exciting team.
Freddie Freeman remains the top vote-getter in the National League and has a sizable lead over Anthony Rizzo. It would be Freeman’s first start in the game and a well-deserved honor for a player who has flown under the radar on horrible teams.
The fact the Braves have so many players in the top five in All-Star voting points to their fans commitment as well as the National notice the Braves are starting to command.
This team is proving they are for real leading their division by 3.5 games in the middle of June. The team is benefitting from a young energy. Youthful energy best describes the Braves third and final All-Star leader in Ozzie Albies.
Albies has a slim lead at second base and is well deserving of the honor despite his recent struggles. Albies is an energizer for the Braves and it is highly likely this is the first of many starts for the second baseman in the All-Star Game.
