4. The Hawks Take one of the worst contracts in the NBA trading for Chandler Parsons

It isn’t any secret the Memphis Grizzlies are desperate to rid themselves of an awful Parson’s contract. He is overpaid at $24-Million and set to make $25-million on a player option the season after that.

For the Hawks to take on such a mammoth contract they would have to rid themselves of more than just Kent Bazemore. Trading Kent Bazemore and Miles Plumlee in exchange for Parsons and Ben McLemore is the easiest way to make this deal work according to ESPN’s Trade Machine.

Taking on a deal like Parson’s is a loss for Atlanta they are not trading their way out from under his deal. The only reason they would make such a trade is that it would be less overall then they would have to pay Bazemore and Plumlee combined.

Parsons would be a better fit in Atlanta as well and offer the team another scoring option, though not an elite one. Putting Parsons on the bench and getting rid of Plumlee’s contract are the headlines here for Atlanta.

For Memphis, they would have to be willing to pay two players more combined to rid themselves of Parsons hoping they will have an easier time moving on from Bazemore and Plumlee in the future if needed.

This deal seems like a win for the Hawks and the Grizzlies or rather a loss in that they both take on painful contracts that will look better on their rosters. The only caveat here is if the Grizzlies will take Plumlee’s deal or if they believe they are better off paying out Parson’s deal.
